Having PT3 on two computers

Postby nawledge4pwr » Thu Oct 02, 2008 1:14 am

Two questions:

1. How do I put PT3 on a second computer? What process do I have to undertake?

2. How do I make sure both computers remain updated with the data rendered on the other computer. IOW If I play a session on PC 1 how do I make sure that PC 2's database is updated with the data rendered during that session on PC 1?

1. Just install it the same as you did on your first computer.
If you want to copy your layout across, you can copy the file:
c:\program files\pokertracker 3\data\layouts.pt3

2. Please see the 'How To' post in the Database / Postgres FAQ

What is a "layout"?

HUD layout, sorry. The configuration of stat groups and their positions.
If you change your HUD setup, you could copy that file to your other computer to save you doing the work again.

I've taken this quote from the "how to" section and I have some questions on it:

"How do I synchronize my databases on 2 computers?
The simplest way to do this is to set up a shared folder and have both computers import the hand histories from it.
Whichever computer you are playing on should autoimport the hands, and then when you stop auto import the hand history files will be moved (see 'move processed files to' on auto import tab). You could then have the other computer import from that folder - Manual Import is faster, but you could use auto import and have that move the files to a 3rd folder for back up."

When you say, "setup a shared folder" what does that mean? Does that mean I set up a folder into which Pokerstars would download my handhistories? Or is it a folder that holds the data that is created by PT3 when PT3 imports and processes the data found in my Pokerstars HH folder? How do I set that up?

How would we have another computer import from that folder? Flash drive? If so, does that mean that I would have to keep a flash drive connected to my computer while I play poker and use PT3 if I wished to keep my 2 computers synchronized? Or do I connect the flash drive at the end and download that folder onto the flash drive?

"Manual Import is faster, but you could use auto import and have that move the files to a 3rd folder for back up." - How does this work? How would you set it up so that when you click auto import, the files would be moved to that shared folder?

If your computers are networked you can connect each to the other and share folders - I'm not going to try and talk you through setting that up, but you can find out how using the Window Help.
Alternatively, once you have finished a session on one computer, just copy the hand history files to the other computer and do a manual import - e.g. using a flash drive as you mention.

On the auto-import tab, there is a 'move processed files to' section - this will mean that when you stop auto import the files will be moved to a separate folder to be stored.

When you have the files moved, do they stay in the "right spot" for the first computer so that you can access them when you need them? IOW my question is do the files remain accessible (for the first computer) even after they have been moved? Or do you have to move them back to the first folder?

The hand history text is stored in the database (unless you uncheck the 'store hand history text' option) so you don't actually need the original files any more, although it makes sense to keep them since they will zip up very small.

I'm reading up on how to synchronize my two computers through the wireless network I have between them. In the How to section you referenced above, I have come across a step in the process that I don't understand.

"Step B) simply add the line below to the bottom of your document:
"host all all 192.168.1.0/24 md5""

What "document" are they referring to?

The quote can be found on this page: http://www.pokertracker.com/forums/view ... =45&t=4638

Read the paragraph above:

The general overview is to update your configuration files to let the server know that computers in your same subnet are allowed access to the server. To do this, goto start -> programs -> postgresql -> configuration files -> pg_hba.conf. Scroll to the bottom of the file. You will see something similar to this at the bottom:
