Running PT3 Beta 22 on linux ?

Postby Ryuuketsu » Sun Dec 07, 2008 10:45 am

Hello, I'm totally new to PokerTracker

I'm a 100% Linux Fedora user, and I have no Windows license to run poker tracker under. I have tried to run it under Wine following instructions given here : http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=12081 .

When trying to launch Poker Tracker, specifying the SQL database, I get an error message : "Unable to connect to database. Please check configuration"

Could someone please give me some help ? I've wanted to buy the commercial PT3 version, but if it's not working

Ps : sorry for my bad english :?

That's a different error than the last time I tried running PT3 under WINE; I'll have to try again to see if I can get it working.

We do not officially support any environment other than Windows . . . but I'm a Linux user myself (ubuntu at the moment, though I started in RedHat 6.something :), so I'll try and take a look at it later and see what I can see, and let you know.

Thanks Kraada...
I saw there was posts about linux, so I thought i could post here.
There's not much informations on the web on how to get PT3 working with Linux. Just people saying it works

Just by curiosity how do you run PT3 ? On windows or vmware ?
I'm thinking about buying a Xp licence to dual boot with Fedora, but it's a bit expensive :?

VMWare Player is free; I've bought enough hardware over the years that I have licenses for Windows lying around.

I actually have 2000 running in VMWare now, but I should probably upgrade that to XP . . . I just hate sitting through Windows installs, so I've avoided it . . .

So you're a VMWare user. Interresting ^^ Is it hard to configure ?
Does it take lots of memory running programs on vmware ?
But I've got no licence at the time... :?

Not really; you have to jump through a few hoops to create the disk image, but the basic idea is to create a virtual disk that's empty then boot to it using a cd and install.

The virtual disk takes as much HD space as a normal install of the OS would; so I've got 4G for Win2k and it's about 1/4 empty in the OS. Hard drives are cheap these days though, so it's not like that's much of a cost.

You can tell vmware how much ram to allot; I've tended to give it about half of my RAM as it doesn't use all it can at all times, just that sets the maximum. (And it worked fine for 8 tabling + PT3 & HUD on FTP when I only had 2G of ram, split half and half.)

Thanks Kraada, hard disk is not that much a problem, as i've got two for backups.
The real problem is windows by itself as the only one i have is window 98 (others are huuuummm... not really legal, and i don't use them)
But i want to try poker tracker  ... If someone has an old xp he doesn't use anymore i'm ready to buy him

I don't have that many licenses lying around . . . but I'm sure you can find a copy somewhere relatively cheap.

Good luck.

I understand.

If you do turn out to find a way to get PT3 working properly under Wine, do let me know though, and I'll make sure to disseminate that information to any other linux folk that I run across.
