Updating cache, how long can it take ?

Postby pmania » Mon Aug 02, 2010 4:45 pm

Hello all, I am importing everyday some hands. I tried some full housekeeping but it hung sometimes. Now I only did an updating cache and it is still running for more then 3 1/2 hours already, I only imported 150k hands more into my database. I think I must have maybe 2.5-3mil hands, I have a intel Q9550 quad core procc with 4 gig ram and a seagate 7200 16mb cache 1.5 gig hd which is almost full.

BTW I choose for updating cache, beause it sounded faster then rebuilding cache. And where does the housekeeping information url link to, since I can't click on it now ?

Adding new custom stats or custom columns causes the cache to be rebuilt entirely and that can cause it to take quite a bit longer. Otherwise, Update is only necessary if you manually import - auto importing should update the cache automatically when you stop the import process.

I made my PT faster by dropping all of the observed hands I collected on FTP a few years ago.

Data on people from that long isn't terribly useful anyway (in my opinion)

Do you have a large number of observed hands that you can purge from your database?

Purging from large databases can take quite a while; if you have a database that you're purging a significant fraction of you will likely get things done faster by exporting and reimporting into a new database.
