Was PostgreSQL installed by PT3 when you first ran it?
If not, did you already have it installed on this computer?
If you've tried another tracker try "postgrespass" as the password.

If you click Start (on XP click Run) and type services.msc, do you see PostgreSQL in the list?
If so, can you start it?

it was previously installed. I tried that password and it gave me same message. When i look at list it says postgreql-8.4.

If it was previously installed you will need to use the password which it was set up with, assuming that the service is running OK?
If you don't know what that is you can remove the need for PostgreSQL passwords: How To: Remove PostgreSQL Password.

Got to be honest those directions are confusing. Could I unistall it then reinstall?

Yes, you could do that. Please follow the directions in the guide in the Documentation, which will allow you to keep any existing databases.

Hello!

I have the same problem :| I have used Holdem Manager earlier and therefore Postgres is already installed on my computer. I have checked it and 8.3 version of Postgres is running. I have also used password "posgrespass" instead of "dbpass", but it has not helped. I do still receive the same message, when trying to connect to the database after starting PT3

"Unable to connect to this database. Please check the configuration."

I am washed out of trying everything and searching for something that will help. Please help me! I would like to try out Poker Tracker 3 also to see which program will suit me better.

Thank you!

P.S.: I use Windows XP and Eset Firewall

Is the PostgreSQL service running?
Click Start and Run, and type "services.msc". Find PostgreSQL in the list. Is it running? If not, can you start it?

Did you try this?

Other than that you could reinstall PostgreSQL as described in the guide in the Documentation (mentioned above) - this will not cause you to lose your databases.

I have ran services.msc and Postgres is running there. Also the password I am using is good 100%, as I have run the database in Holdem Manager and I can see there this:

Server name: 127.0.0.1
Port number: 5432
Login name: postgres
Password: posgrespass

When I click connect with this information in Holdem Manager, there is no problem and it connects. But when I put the same information in Poker Tracker, it is unavailable to connect.

EDIT: The problem was in firewall, I have disconnected from internet to prevent some harms and tried to make the firewall off and it worked, so I have to inquire now how to set my firewall that Poker Tracker can work. But I hope that will not be such a problem. Thanks for your assistance!
