How to install PostgreSQL on IMAC

I downloaded the full version of PT3 for Mac, when i instal postgreSQL and i connect it says, unable to connect!
Unable to connect to this database, please check the configuration.

What do i need to do? I cannot find any conf to adjust?

Do you see PostgreSQL in the Applications folder? If you try to restart the server, do you receive any errors? If so, what do they say?

Also: are you running Lion?

Its not in my app folder, so cannot restart it and i am running Lion.

I have search on the internet and i found something about homebrew... and fink... and that you CANNOT run on lion.
I also tried to install postgreSQL 9.1beta from the site www.postgresql.org and then i get a error---> Problem running post-install step. Installation may not complete correctly
The database cluster initialisation failed.

Now I'm not so good with the mac ( second day ) so this is new for me, i had pt3 running on XP before.
