Filesystem?

Do I need to convert from FAT to NTFS before installing PT3 beta? IIRC postgresql requires it, at least it did last summer when I had it installed.

You need an NTFS filesystem from which to run postgres - but this need not be your C: drive.

I'd advise against converting FAT -> NTFS unless you have lots of time and very good backups.

Post more information about your setup and I'll post better advice :)

That isnt quite true. You can run PostgreSQL on a FAT/FAT32 filesystem; however, you may need install PostgreSQL manually rather than letting PT3 do it. (I am not sure)

I suggest reading:

ewww.

no reason to not drop $40 on a new drive and use it if need be imo. Details of system wanted pls.

FWIW I've done the conversion FAT32 -> NTFS twice before (on my C: drive) without problems but it seems as I don't need to this time. I just realized I formatted my computer a while ago and chose NTFS as filesystem instead of FAT32 which it was as default when I bought this laptop (as it also was with my older one). So no problems here as I do have NTFS and I just installed PT3 successfully. Thanks anyways for the advice!

PT3 is looking good so far, as I had expected. I do have another question: when is it necessary to register/buy PT3? When the final version comes out?

Good deal! That certainly makes it much easier ;)

Yes, the beta versions are free to anyone that wants to help us test. Once the final version is released, you can either continue to use PT3 on the 30 day trial or purchase the program. When will the final release be ready? That is the golden question :) Hopefully by mid-March?
