Why not simply install using PostgreSQL 8.3 included with PT3?

We are using SQL_ASCII encoding. If you are installing PostgreSQL individually, make sure that you install the drivers at the end of the installation process. Otherwise, everything should be default.

Honestly, you should let PT3 install PostgreSQL for you if you aren't sure what you need. It should install smooth and painlessly for you.
