i need suggestions after reinstalling OS

Postby jekki » Sun Mar 22, 2009 2:51 pm

Dear community,
the situation after reinstalling my OS (of course all the registrations have gone) is:

1. I still have postgres v. 8.2 as i installed
2. I still have postgres v. 8.3 as i installed
these are of course unknown for the "new" OS
3. i used v.8.2 for DBs in PT2 AND PT3, v.8.3 i have only installed in order to test an other poker tool
4.PT3 i have only tested, i still rather work with PT2+HUD
5.I have the backed up the PT2 DBs

What to do now?
Is it possible to install v.8.3 (for PT2) and restore the DBs, which i backed up before using v.8.2?
Or i have to reinstall v.8.2 in order to restore my DBs in PT2?
Thank in advance!
Best regards

You can restore an 8.2 database into 8.3. Install 8.3 (***SEE BELOW), setup your Utilities > PostgreSQL Settings window then use the Utilities > PostgreSQL Database Functions window to restore from the backup files you have.

Then you need to go to the File > Maintain Database Names window, click the Add button, enter a description, in the last field choose "Select existing PostgreSQL database" from the list. Select the db you want to use on the next window that opens. If you want this db to be the one PT opens when you first open the program, click the "Dflt" box. Click OK to save all changes then close and reopen PT.

*** A COUPLE EXTRA THINGS REGARDING PT3 ***
1. After you install it, you will need to run the Stack Builder application, see here
archives/PT2/viewtopic.php?t=24880

2. When you do the restore, you may be prompted that the pg_restore.exe file was not found and it will ask you to find it. Browse to the c:\program files\postgresql\8.3\bin folder and you should be able to select it from there.
