Yes you want to install as a service, and no, Stack Builder is not necessary. Our instructions for installing PostgreSQL are available here.

Ok, I have now removed/uninstalled everything, and all goes well on reinstall until I run into this message: "The secondary logon service is not running. This service is required for the installer to initialize this database ..." This is not mentiones in instructions. What does it mean and how do I solve it?
