PostgreSQL 9.0 manually installed and not working

Hi there,

I've been following instructions from your site to manually install PostgeSQL 9.0. However Postgre is not listed in the task manager. I've tried to follow this instruction: Go Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL 9.0 -> Start Service but I can't find the "Start Service" option!

Note that I had a .8 version installed before which worked fine.

Thanks in advance!

Click Start type services.msc and click on it when it appears. Do you see PostgreSQL in the list? You can start it from there if you do (and if you don't, it's not properly installed).

PostgreSQL is indeed listed but I can't start it form the Services list. I installed PostgreSQL twice and everything seemed fine during the installation. Note that in the last column ("log as") ".\postgres" is filled.

My bad!

"This guide is for users who are upgrading from PostgreSQL 9.0.x only."

And yet the previous version of PostgreSQL installed on my computer was 8.x.

Well, PostgreSQL is no longer installed on my computer. What should I do please?

Ok I've re-installed PostgreSQl 8.3. But I would like to use the optimal version of PostgreSQL knowing I'm using Windows Seven 64bit with 8GO of RAM.

In that case what you want to do is backup your database via File -> Backup in PT4. Once you have a backup, uninstall 8.3 and then install 9.0 (64 bit) and then you can restore that bacukp via File -> Restore. You can then delete your 8.3 data folder - but verify that everything is working properly in 9.0 first. You can get the 64 bit version of 9.0 here.

As already done before posting here I've been following these instructions:

1) Removing PostgreSQL 8.3: https://www.pokertracker.com/guides/PT4 ... 83-windows

2) Manually installing PostgreSQL 9.0.12: https://www.pokertracker.com/guides/PT4 ... postgresql

Then I still have the same problem: PostgreSQL is not working!

Do you see PostgreSQL in the process list at all? Is it in the services.msc list now?

PostgreSQL 9.0 doesn't appear in the process list. As previously it's listed in the services.msc but it can't be started. Note that 9.0 version isn't installed by default in the same direcotry than the 8.3 version ("Programmes" vs. "Program Files (x86)").

Ok PostgreSQL 9.0 is finally working! I think that the Wizard Setup chose a wrong folder for the installation ('Programmes" instead of "Program files (x86)").

One more thing though, neither *32 nor *64 appears in the Task Manager. Does it matter please?
