PokerTrackerHud.exe run credentials

Postby mikew » Mon Sep 13, 2010 7:02 pm

I have an open support ticket, currently awaiting response. I thought i'd post here incase anyone knows the solution.

I'm on winXP, using a limited account. For PT3, i use the Run As command to run it as administrator.

The problem is, PokerTracker.exe is being run as admin, and when you go to auto import, it somehow launches PokerTrackerHud.exe but this executable is being run with limited credentials, not with the admin credentials from Run As from the original app

PokerTracker.exe somehow calls PokerTrackerHud.exe but with current user credentials instead of its own Run As credentials. How can I change that?

I'm not certain off the top of my head but I'll look into it and let you know what I find out.

unfortunately support isn't understanding my problem, so hopefully you can find a solution :( maybe you can ask the programmers how they are launching the Hud.exe during auto import

it seems now that PT.exe is successfully launching Hud.exe as admin as well. I am unable to reproduce the problem of PT.exe being admin and Hud.exe being limited

however, i'm still getting the same error message 'Unable to Launch Rush HUD', even with Task Manager showing that both are running as admin

i've included this latest info in my support ticket thread as well.

the thing is, when i log directly into my admin account, Rush HUD works. but when i use my limited account, and use Run As for PT.exe as admin, even though both PT and Hud.exe are looking like they are admin credentials in Task Manager, i still get that error...

We use CreateProcess.

Post or PM me your ticket number as there may be a way around this. The easiest solution would be to add yourself to the Administrator's group.

Are you running Full Tilt as Administrator as well?

ticket item 96952

FullTilt is being run in my limited account. I only use Run As on PT3

obviously i could add myself to administrators group but i dont want to do that for security purposes. thats why i'm not using an admin account as it is. PT2 required a bunch of hacks and registry permissions but eventually we got it to run as limited. PT3 never even gave us the attempt to run as limited and just demanded admin. so, i've succumbed and just used Run As.

originally it looked like the Hud.exe was being launched as limited and that was the sole cause of the problem. alas, it now seems that Hud.exe is successfully being created with admin credentials as well, so in theory everything *should* work. but i get the PT error :(

edit/
lol, so I try running FTP as admin using Run As, and now the Rush HUD works. this is very strange and the first time in years of running as a limited user that a program running as admin also required the other program that it interacts with to be running as admin as well. its always been the logical way, an admin exe could interact with other admin exes or limited exes as well.

so, whats the deal? am i going to be required to run FTP as admin to solve this? shouldn't PT3 as admin be able to read the memory or whatever of any process even if its limited?

The problem is that FTP can't communicate back to PT3 if PT3 is elevated and FTP is not. Administrative privileged processes might as well be considered as running on a completely different computer.

I would imagine if you could live without Rush Hud and the PokerStars memory grabber we could come up with a non-admin configuration for you. However manipulating other processes will always require administrator privileges.

ahhh i see.. i did not know that FTP was communicating back to PT3.. that makes sense

i just started playing Rush, and that is a game where HUD is more important than others, so i guess i'll live with running FTP as admin. i dont know what the Stars memory grabber even does?

thanks though

It displays HUD data on Stars tables before you're dealt in by importing up to 30 observed hands. If you don't play at Stars or don't need this feature, turning it off will improve performance.
