Can't install PostgreSQL

Postby hklk » Wed Mar 16, 2011 11:50 am

When trying to install PostgreSQL i got a message to read/copy in The PostgreSQL folder the initdb file.
When opened with notepad it shows the following:

The files belonging to this database system will be owned by user "SYSTEM".
This user must also own the server process.

The database cluster will be initialized with locale Chinese (Traditional)_Hong Kong S.A.R..950.
initdb: could not find suitable text search configuration for locale Chinese (Traditional)_Hong Kong S.A.R..950
The default text search configuration will be set to "simple".

creating directory C:/Program Files (x86)/PostgreSQL/8.3/data ... ok
creating subdirectories ... ok
selecting default max_connections ... 100
selecting default shared_buffers/max_fsm_pages ... 32MB/204800
creating configuration files ... ok
creating template1 database in C:/Program Files (x86)/PostgreSQL/8.3/data/base/1 ... initdb: invalid locale name "Chinese (Traditional)_Hong Kong S.A.R."
initdb: invalid locale name "Chinese (Traditional)_Hong Kong S.A.R."
initdb: invalid locale name "Chinese (Traditional)_Hong Kong S.A.R."
initdb: invalid locale name "Chinese (Traditional)_Hong Kong S.A.R."
initdb: invalid locale name "Chinese (Traditional)_Hong Kong S.A.R."
initdb: invalid locale name "Chinese (Traditional)_Hong Kong S.A.R."
child process exited with exit code 1
initdb: removing data directory "C:/Program Files (x86)/PostgreSQL/8.3/data"

What could be the problem and how can is solve it?
It seems that the problem arises from the fact that I'm using a chinese computer.

Are you using the installer that comes bundled with PT3 or are you using a pgInstaller version that you downloaded yourself?

Try downloading and installing it manually as explained in our uninstall/reinstall guide available on our documentation page - you'll be prompted then for locale and you'll be able to choose a different one.

Thank you very much for your answer.I followed the uninstall/reinstall guide. When arriving to the "Initialize database cluster" window I changed the Locale to "English, United states" and change parameters according to the guide.
When clicking on "Next", then i get the message: " The 'Secondary Logon' service is not running. This service is required for the installer to initialize the database. Please start this service and try again"
I'm lost and don't know what to do then...

Click Start (if you're on Windows XP click Run), type services.msc and hit enter. In the list, locate Secondary Logon and right click it and click Properties. Set it to Automatic and start the process. Then the installation should complete successfully.

everytime i try to install the PostgreSQL it gives me an error message as follows: Failed to run initdbi 1!
please see logfile in "C:\Program Files\PosgreSQL\8.3\tpm\initdb.log' .
Note! you must read\copy this file before you click ok or it will be automatically removed.
now I do not understand what they mean by this. could you advise me as to what i must do. Am i doing some thing wrong! I used your PokerTracker 3 manual for manualling installing PostgreSQL but it is not working . I am running Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 updated to service pack 3.Is this ok and compatible. Could this be the problem

It should work fine with XP Home - what firewall/anti-virus are you using? Depending on how you have those configured they could cause this error.
