I have a similar problem. I had postgresql installed on my machine then uninstalled it.(I also uninstalled PT3) Now in order to renistall PT3 and postgresql, I followed your advice above by doing "start->run->cmd". But when I type in "net user postgres /delete", it says "system error 5 has occurred. access is denied" what can I do?

Are you running as an administrator?

Make sure you are logged in as "Administrator".

EDIT: it said you were offline, Josh :)

I was running PT3 as an administrator but I have no idea whether I am running Vista as an administrator. Because Vista start menu doesn't have "Run" option, I typed in "run" in the search column and clicked on the icon when it came up. Then I typed in "cmd" and etc. How do I check if I am logged in as an administrator or is there another way to make PT3 work? Thanks for your help guys and I have to say PT3 looks amazing.

EDIT: I just went to control panel-> user accounts. It says I am an administrator there.

in that case you are almost certainly not runing the command line as administrator. (This is a good thing, otherwise I'd have no idea why you got that error:) )

Easiest way I can guess at is to make a new shortcut with the target cmd.exe - then right click that / run as administrator. Should work, although I am guessing as no vista on hand :(

You have to forgive me. I am like the most retarded person in the world when it comes to computer stuff. Can you explain how to make the short cut?

On windows XP: "Right-click on an empty bit of desktop -> New -> Shortcut".

This is frustrating... I'm about to give up.

Would I have the same problem with the final product?
If so, too bad because I really wanted to get it.

it sounds so very likely your Owner account is not an administrator, I am confused. *All* windows XP+ come with an administrator account, it is not easy to get rid of it.

Here is a link that may help: http://pginstaller.projects.postgresql. ... s.html#3.4 (problems with initdb)

We'll get it working for you if you don't give up. When you go to Start -> Run, under Vista, it should say under the field where you enter the text: "This task will be created with administrative privileges." Does yours say this?
