Pokerstars alert box hidden

Postby lard » Thu Sep 27, 2012 6:35 pm

When playing on pokerstars there's an alert box that tells you when no more observed hands can be imported. Used to be fine on PT3 but on PT4 it keeps getting hidden behind the main window and there's no way of selecting it and until it is selected PT4 essentially stops working. It seems the only way to deal with it is to force the program to close through task manager and then restart it.

I haven't seen any problems with that window - are you seeing it appear and then go behind the main window, or don't you see it at all?
One possible issue is if you have connected or disconnected a second monitor since you started PT4 - does that apply to you?

I believe it's a case of it coming up in front at first although I'm not sure if it comes to the front of other programs should PT4 already be behind them. I have clicked on it a couple of times without any problems, but on other occasions I've been aware of something happening due to the alert sound and flashing taskbar, but not actually seen it at all. The issue seems much more likely to happen when I have several windows open, all auto popping up, such as poker software does when it's my turn to act.

I do use two monitors but believe both have been running before PT4 starts each time, rather than connected after. It is possible that I might be wrong and will pay attention to verify this, but I do know for a fact that I have been looking across both monitors to find the alert box - there is no way that it is hiding on an unseen screen.

So to verify, when this happens I cannot interact with PT4 at all, resize, move etc, it stops importing hands until cleared, the only thing I can do is end it from task manager.

Is there perhaps a way of making the alert box become a separate window, so it could be selected via the Alt + Tab method?

Using Windows 7 by the way.

I've just woken my laptop up from sleep state. PT4 was still open. The second monitor has been connected the whole time and was definitely connected before PT4 started, as I had to restart it last night. I clicked on the 'Alias' button which brings up a different alert box and immediately found that I had the same problem. The alert box did not come to the front at all even though I was directly interacting with PT4, so it was focused. Again I had to force the program to close. When I restarted it the alert box for the alias button worked fine.

That sounds like the same issue - I suspect that when you sleep and wake it up again it effectively reconnects the second screen, which would cause the same behaviour. If you ever see this behaviour without using your second screen, or using it but definitely not connecting/disconnecting it or sleeping after launching PT4 please do let us know.
I spoke to one of the developers about this issue again a couple of days ago and I hope it is going to be addressed soon.

Thanks - I think you're right. It's good to know that so long as I am vigilant I can make sure it doesn't happen, but is a bit of a pain. Here's hoping the dev guys get on it soon.

I do have the same problem now and then (with other pop-up windows). Instead of killing PT4 from the Task Manager, I press the Esc button on my keyboard. The main PT4 windows will get focus again because it wil close the hidden pop-up.
