Unable To Login To Database (Postgres)

Postby melodican » Mon Jul 01, 2013 7:06 am

Hey !

PT has been working for me perfectly all weekend (27" iMac) but suddenly, this morning I log in and I'm getting the error message:

"Unable to login to database (Postgres). Reason: could not connect to server: no such file or directory is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?

My options are to configure defaults or cancel and quite... So obviously I click Configure Defaults.. I get the opportunity to connect to the regular SQL server i.e. port 5432, dpass etc etc but I get "Cannot connect to the databse"

I'm a technical retard, but any help you can give me re this would really help me out as I really love PT... Spotted some MONSTER leaks in my game :)

Cheers in advance

Have you tried restarting your Mac? Sometimes the server can get shut down and the easiest way to restart it on OS X is to just reboot the machine.

I worked in IT for a number of years.... Off and On again is the staple solution to most problems... Unfortunately, this is still causing a problem despite restarting afew times.

Look in /Liberary/PostgreSQL/9.0/data/pg_log - look for the most recent file there and open up it. You should see some errors; could you paste the errors here please?

I'm aware of what the PT4 screens look like - PostgreSQL is not running on your machine. Please take a look at the PostgreSQL logs in the folder indicated and let me know what they say - they will tell us why PostgreSQL is not running so that we can get things working for you.

Hi I have exactly the same problem. My Poker Tracker 4 database was working fine until I downloaded the latest patch.
I have tried looking for the file /Library/PostgreSQL/9.0/data/pg_log in my user folder (I have the Library folder visible ) but there is no Postgres folder!
Help please!

None at all? Just to check, open Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal and type this command in and paste the output here to me:
ps auxw | grep -i postgres

Then it seems like PostgreSQL is not installed on your system. You can follow our documentation here to do so.
