creating SQL on PT2 after installing PT3

Postby George999 » Tue May 27, 2008 10:32 am

I have a new computer that I want to move my PT2 DB to. I made a backup and I want to import the backup to PT2 on this computer. The problem I am running into is that I had already installed PT3 on this computer and have been using it just fine but PT3 automatically installed SQL on my computer so now when I try to set up an SQL DB on PT2 I don't have any of the information I need to set it up.

PT3 is using port 5432 with user name of postgres but I don't know the password and I don't have anything in the "ODBC Entry to use" drop down list.

I tried installing SQL 8.2 but I couldn't because of some kind of permission rules on vista. I did go in and take ownership of the file it said I did not have permission to access but when I ran the installer again it took my ownership privileges away again!!!!!! I HATE VISTA!

What do I need to do to get SQL running on PT2??????????????????????/

Okay, I got it to work. I had to change the default username from postgres. I did this the first time but used my name as the user name. For some reason after I took ownership of the file and ran the installer for the fifth time using the username "postgres2" it worked.

When I go to try to set up the SQL in PT2 I enter everything in correctly into to the settings box and when I go to the PostgresSQL Functions option I keep getting a popup message that says:
"Unable to connect to PostgreSQL (Port #5433) to get the list of databases. The error was:
101 - SQLSTATE = 08001
server closed the connection unexpectedly"

I have tried everything. I uninstalled and reinstalled Postgres 8.6.2 and changed the md5 lines to trust.
I just don't know what else to do.

This is getting very frustrating. :x

Try this. Since you have 8.3 installed with PT3 - go to the PostgreSQL Settings window, change the port # to 5432 and the user name back to "postgres" and change the password to what you used when you installed PostgreSQL 8.3 with Poker Tracker 3.

Now try it again.

OMG!!!! Thank you soooooooooooooooo much. It worked! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I thought it was gonna be hopeless.

I had to go into the pg_hba file in 8.3 and change the md5 lines to trust though. I don't remember giving PT3 a password for SQL and if I did then I know what it would have been and it didn't work but after changing these lines it worked like a champ.

You da man!

Okay, I am about to freak out.

I have the SQL up and running but I can't do a restore. When I select my restore file another explorer browser window pops up with the title bar of "Select Location Of 'pg_restore.exe' file". I uninstalled PT2 and PT3 and reinstalled PT2. I uninstalled SQL 8.2 and 8.3 then reinstalled 8.3. I deleted the SQL registry keys to completely remove it from my system so I could start from scratch and I keep getting this message.

When I first got the SQL running I did a restore and everything worked just perfect except that I couldn't open the database. I went into "add database names" and set the new database as default and all that. When I would try to open the database PT would hang up. I tried restarting PT and rebooting several times with no luck. That is why I uninstalled the SQL's. (If I lose my PT3 data I am not too worried cuz it was just datamined data)

Anyway, I started fresh and got everything working but what is this pg_restore.exe window all about when I try to make my restore? I have done restores many many many times on PT and never seen this window and I just did one like an hour ago and didn't have this problem.

What gives??????

This file should be in the c:\program files\postgresql\8.3\bin folder. All you should have to do is navigate to that folder and select the file there and the restore should work.
