equity calculator - how it works

Postby dangereux333 » Fri Aug 16, 2024 12:49 pm

Hi:

I would like to know how range versus range calculation is done. We have one range against another range. And the output comes out to be one number.

How does, how do the numbers average out? How does the computation work? Say I have one hand versus a range of hands. Does the result take the average outcome of all the hands?

What of range versus another range? At any given time, we have only 2 cards and our opponent has 2 cards. But if we do range on range computation, the result itself in a way misrepresents. The result has to be taken in with grain of salt but how much variance built in?

Thanks,

Hello, range calculation result will be the average equity of all combinations of each range against the other. Not all hands within the range will be equally likely in reality, but none of that is factored in, as the software has no way to know that.

Also keep in mind that any range selection is always going to be an estimation - while the equity of one range vs another range can be calculated, the result is only as good as the estimation of the two ranges.

I say this is probably the single most helpful and clear minded thing I have heard for some time. Stay away from people who try to sell certainty. Lol
