PT3, PTO and Postgresql

Hello,

Having bought a new laptop, I proceeded with installing PT3 WITH postgreSQL, and installing PTO. PT3 works just fine, but PTO doesn't seem to recognize the postgresql that went with PT3. What do I do now? Basically I want to transfer my PTO database from my old laptop. Do I have to install postgreSQL again?

What is happening that makes you think PTO doesn't recognize PostgreSQL? Did you make a backup of your PostgreSQL database on your old laptop?

Well, to put it another way, I made a backup of the PTO database (which is postgresql) on the old laptop so that I could import it on the new laptop. But how do I actually import it?
PTO says that I have not configured postgre, and redirects me to the settings. There, I seem to have to provide a username and password (and (OBDC entry to use""), but I haven't had to do that in the first place while installing PT3. So basically, whät do I put there?

I'm not sure what PT3 uses for a default username and password - probably postgres (or postgre) for the user and maybe dbpass for the password. If the ODBC Entry To Use dropdown is empty, see the first 4 posts of this thread:

Once you get it working with PostgreSQL 8.3 or 8.2 you can use the Restore button on the Utilities > PostgreSQL Database Functions window.

Ok, so I installed the other version of postgres, tried the the dabase restore. It asks me for a password, I go to the config files to change the 'md5' to 'trust', but Vista won't let save any changes to the file. As I'm new with vista, I thought I'd ask your help one more time!

For Vista you need to be running all programs as administrator.

What I mean is, it won't allow me to change "md5" to "trust". It says "Cannot create the blablabla file. make sure that the path and filename are correct" when I try to save the changes.

Ok, I changed the md5 to trust and saved. Click the restore dbase in PTO, and again it asks for a password (which it shouldn't at this stage...). So then I did something stupid, I uninstalled this version of postgress to reinstall it, and get error messages. So now I can't even install postgress 2 anymore (the 2755 problem). I am at a loss. This stuff is so unfriendly. I see there are a lot threads about this, and frankly, I'm done with it. Is it possible to convert my sql pto database back to access? At least it works...

There is no direct-conversion back to Access. The only way to do it is to export all of you hands from the PostgreSQL database on your old computer and re-import them all into an Access database on your new one. I know it's frustrating. Vista and PT3's PostgreSQLare conspiring against you right now. I think we can get it working though. Prior to reinstalling PostgreSQL, delete your Program Files/PostgreSQL folder for the version of PostgreSQL you are reinstalling. See if you can reinstall it then.
