Database Error

Postby Tilter » Tue Feb 17, 2009 8:22 pm

I haven't used my PT in over a month, so today when I opened it up and went to PostgreSQL Database Function I was met with this popup

"SUBJ: --Error Message --

Error #: 1
Unable to connect to PostgreSQL (Port #: 5432) to get the list of databases. The error was:
101 - SQLState = 08001
could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061)
Is the server running on host "localhost" and avcepting
TCP/IP connection on port 5432?

This is more likely due to the fact that the database server is not running on this port. Make sure the database server is running or, if the port is no longer being used, open the Utilities > PostgreSQL Settings window and remove the entry for port #5432 so you don't continue to get these error messages."

I go to PostgreSQL Settings and I can not remove port 5432.

How do I get rid of this error message? I would like to back up my database.

Is that an error from PT3?

You posted this thread in the PT3 section, not the PTv2 section. I'm moving the thread to the PTv2 section so Pat will see it.

It means the PostgreSQL service isn't running. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services
Find PostgreSQL in the list and start it.

Hi,
I'm running XP, so I don't see the Admin Tools option.

But I do have the PostgreSQL 8.2 on my Start Menu.

One of the options are "start services" and "stop services"

I stopped and then started and then tried to open up PT and tried to open the "PostgreSQL Database Functions" and got the same error.

It's called Administrative Tools - it should be there.

You were correct, I had to switch to "Classic View" to get to it.

I went to the PostgreSQL Database and right click -> Start

It begins to load and then the pop-up comes

"SUBJ: Services

The PostgreSQL Database Server 8.2 service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service."

Go to the c:\program files\postgresql\8.2\data folder. Is there a file called postmaster.pid there? If so, delete it and then try to start the service again.
