Postgres

Postby nineshine » Mon May 28, 2012 8:59 am

Hello I am receiving the following message. Does anyone know the solution to this problem please?

Unable to login to database (postgres). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "???" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

Warmest Regards

That error means that your PostgreSQL database server is not running. This server is required for PT4 (and PT3 for that matter) to function properly.

Click Start, type services and click on it when it appears. In the window that comes up, locate PostgreSQL from the list and attempt to start the service - does it start successfully?

Hello Kraada

Thank you for your quick reply. I have run the services and tried to run postsql through it. However it states it was unsuccessful due to timing out, and no other information. It has been working fine and I have not altered anything on the pc recently. Are you aware of what the problem might be please?

If you start up PT4 with no internet connection or changed internet configuration, POSTGRES will give you that error.

A real pain to restore back to working conditions and the dumbest thing about POSTGRES.

Have you had a recent change in hardware, configuration, or virus?

That's where I don't understand how this could have happened as I have not done any of the things you have listed. When you say a pain to fix, how many hours are we roughly talking? Thanks for your help.

I had to do a complete reinstall and new hand import. Lost all of my edited tournies, and basically to get back to working conditions, took until the next day.

IDK why POSTGRES gets so messed up by a change to the interent connection.

Ahh that does not sound promising. Do you by any chance have any documentation or links to any documentation on how i can rectify this. Apologies if a simple google search would provide me with the answer.

Just googled, not straight forward.

This was the second time it happened to me and the first time it was also mentioned by a user on the cardchat(?) forum who mentioned the same thing. He later posted that he resolved it finally, but didn't describe what he did :?

I had to go through the process on the HM and PT forums links i think. Second time I just took the reinstall route after no results, and additional databases in my POSTGRES that I couldn't access anymore.

An internet connection is NOT required for PostgreSQL to work locally.

Click Start type Event Viewer and click on it when it appears. In the top left hand area click through the options and look for errors relating to PostgreSQL in the center area. When you find one, double click on it and tell me what the error text is. There should be at least one error besides the timing out one which should tell us more about why things are timing out.

You are probably right oin that but changing your internet or hardware configuration causes problems. The cardschat forum poster mentioned he only changed his router and I had internet connection problems aswell.

I am thinking that POSTGRES that is fine tuned to your hardware configuration and then a change occurs, can create this error?
