How to backup database

Postby vlk25 » Thu Jan 10, 2013 9:19 pm

Hi

My database is too big to backup on my HDD so i can backup to my external HDD but when i Database Managment -– Backup choice my external HDD, PT says error
Estimated temporary space needed is greater than free space on your temporary volume. A possible solution is to change your TEMP environment variable to a drive with more free space.

In external HDD is 60GB free and my database has 25GB

How can i move my database to other PC ?

sorry for my english

That sounds like you're actually nearly out of space on your main drive (where PostgreSQL is installed, probably C:). How much space do you have there? Can you free up some space on your main drive?

If you purge hands it will shrink the database, yes. You can purge hands via Database -> Purge and afterwards you will need to run Vacuum and Analyze to reclaim that space.

Please restart PT4 using the Logging Enabled link on your Start Menu and reproduce this problem. Then please send us the PokerTracker4.log file via a support ticket so that we can investigate this further for you. You can find this file by clicking File -> Open User Data Folder in the main PT4 window. The file we need is the text file called PokerTracker that's in the folder that appears.

That should be plenty. Expect a purge of that size to take a considerable amount of time though.

Or can i export hands from for example December and move to other PC and then export November etc

Its identical as database backup ?

1,2 million exported hands from half of november has 1GB, december be should has 2times more = 2GB

why has my database ( half of november, december and, 10 days from januar) has 25GB ?

If you make a backup using our backup system it's compressed and thus going to be considerably smaller than the actual database.

The hands themselves are just a small part of what goes into the database and the database is going to take considerably more room up than the size of the text file from the hand history.
