October 25, 2013
  • Overview

This Basic HUD User Guide covers basic HUD configuration and is intended for first time users of the HUD feature in PokerTracker 3. For information on advanced HUD configuration, see the Advanced HUD User Guide.

This guide assumes that you already know how to import hand histories into your database. For information on importing hand histories, refer to your Configuration Guide found at our Documentation page, where is the name of the poker client that you are using.

  • About HUD

The Heads Up Display (HUD) is a powerful statistics tracking solution that is overlaid onto your table. Statistics will appear in boxes beside screen names that indicate such information as total hands played, total aggression factor, win percentage, etc. All these stats are fully customizable and can be configured for both cash games and tournaments.

    • Features

      HUD offers the following features:

      • Provides detailed stats about you and your opponents' play
      • Lets you see mucked cards
      • Lets you see winning hands at showdown
      • Lets you see how much you or your opponents won or loss in a hand
    • Compatible Poker Clients

Please visit the PokerTracker 3 - Supported Sites page for the complete list of compatible sites.

  • How to Configure HUD

Configuring HUD is simple. All you have to do is make sure that PokerTracker 3 is open and that it is automatically importing hand histories as you are playing. From there, PokerTracker 3 will place the HUD on your table. It's that easy!

To configure HUD for your poker room, do the following:

    1. Launch PokerTracker 3 and make sure that it is automatically importing hand histories. For information on configuring automatic import of hand histories, see your Configuration Guide.
    2. Play a couple hands at a poker client compatible with PokerTracker 3. For information on compatible poker clients, see the section on Compatible Poker Clients in this guide.
    3. After a few hands, the HUD will show up on your table(s).
    4. You can then position the HUD stats as you like on your table by right-click-dragging them. See Positioning HUD Elements below.
  • Using HUD

HUD is a customizable and scalable solution that you can configure to suit your needs. HUD already comes with default statistics that are industry standard. It's important that you understand these statistics.

    • Understanding the Statistics

The HUD display shows up on your table with default statistics. The default statistics can be seen around your screen name as shown below.

The following table lists the default statistics that will appear in your HUD beside screen name along with a description of each.

      Statistic Description
VP$IP Voluntary put money in the pot measured as a percentage of total hands
PFR Pre-flop raise frequency measured as a percentage of total hands
AF Aggression Factor compares how aggressive or passive the player is

See the Statistical Reference Guide for more information on these statistics, and the rest of the statistics that are built into PT3 by default.

You can left click on the statistics box to show a "popup" that has more detailed statistics as shown on the screenshot to the right.

The statistics displayed can be customized to whatever stats you want. For more information on customizing your HUD, the Advanced HUD User Guide.

    • Seeing Mucked Cards

HUD allows you to see mucked hands - hands which went to showdown, but weren't necessarily shown. This allows you to see what hand your opponent was holding without manually opening the hand history.

When a hand goes to showdown the hole cards of all the players who saw the showdown will be shown briefly beside their screen name, along with the 5 board cards in the center of the table.

    • Seeing the Amount You and Your Opponent Won/Lost

Another great feature of HUD is the ability to see how much you and your opponents won or lost in a hand. You won't need to go back into your hand history to see your net winnings and losses in a hand, as you can now see the information right on your table at the end of the hand.

The amounts won or lost by each player who went to showdown will be displayed with their hole cards.

    • Reviewing Recent Hands

If you missed the result or mucked cards from the previous hand you can see them again by clicking the PT-icon and choosing "Show Last Hand". This will show the mucked cards from the last hand again.

If you see a hand which you would like to review after your session you can mark a recent hand for review by clicking the PT-icon and choosing "Mark Hand for Review". This lists the last 5 hands at the table with your cards (if you were dealt in), the board cards and the winner of the hand. When you mark a hand for review a note will be added to it so that you can look it up later.

    • Positioning HUD Elements

HUD statistics can be positioned anywhere on your table. You can move the statistics boxes around by right clicking on a box and dragging them to a desired location.

This also applies to moving the PT-icon - right click and drag it by the handles on either side; and to the mucked cards and board cards. If these disappear before you have chance to move them, use the PT-icon to select "Review Last Hand".

When you have all the statistics positioned as you want them, you should save their positions by clicking the PT-icon and choosing "Save Layout". The saved layout will then be used for any new tables that you open, but to show the new layout on any tables you already have open you must select each table and click the PT-icon and choose "Reset".

  • Additional Information on HUD

HUD is a powerful statistics tracking solution and this basic user guide has only scratched the surface. There is so much more you can do with HUD and this involves configuration in the actual PokerTracker 3 client.

For more information on advanced configuration and customization for HUD, see your Advanced HUD User Guide.
