Database question

Postby 3leggedtable » Mon Aug 10, 2009 1:06 pm

Hi,
Ive checked through the forum and couldnt find a specific answer to my question. I need to reinstall my operating system and obviously i dont want to lose my database, i was planning to move all processed files to another hard drive until i have finished reinstalling and then simply moving the whole thing back into the 'processed' folder of pt3, will this work? Also when i reinstall pt3 after the reformat will this use up my remaining activation code even though it is the same computer?
Thanks

That process won't work. You need to backup and restore the PT3 database, see the Database/Postgres FAQ for a detailed walkthrough.

You'll also want to save copies of the PT3 Backup Files.

Your reinstallation will not use up your second license. PT3 counts the number of concurrent licenses you have running; when you reformat, that number goes down by 1.

Ive read the tutorial on how to back up the database using pg admin III, however one of the first instructions is to click the + button to expand the database, i dont seem to have this button. I am missing something obvious here?

Right click on PostgreSQL database and click Connect. Then you'll see the + it talks about.

Try clicking Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> Start Service first, then doing that again.
