Stats from the Last "X" Hands Filter Question

Postby parraka » Thu Feb 16, 2012 9:31 pm

Hi, i would like to make this question. I have noticed that when i have a huge database my hud is slow to show. But its is slower when players have a lot of hands. The hud is slower for example when Player 1 (20K hands) Player 2 (15K hands) Player 3 (5K hands) than when i have 1K hands from every player in other table. Other thing is that when i import is slower when i have a very big database. What is a big database? Im playing SH, 2 different stakes.

Would it be nice if i use this filter? When i activate it PT3 tells me that is not going to be able to use cache and maybe its gets a poor perfomance. What do you think? What can i do for have a nice speed when i have big databases, more than 2M, for example. I have a new pc, pentium i7, 8gb ram... Any suggestion?

Enabling the 'last X hands' filter prevents use of the cache and will lead to slower data retrieval. As long as the cache is at 100% (in the status bar at the bottom of PT3) the number of players you have on a player shouldn't affect speed too much, although obviously the larger your database is the longer it takes to retrieve data.
Whether a database is "large" or not is relative to your system, and it sounds like yours is pretty decent. The most critical element is the hard disk, though - do you have a big, fast drive?
Have you done any tuning of PostgreSQL? For large databases the defaults aren't optimal, so you may be able to increase performance that way, as described in the Documentation.
What version of PostgreSQL do you have? (See the Database > Database Management window)

My HD is 500 GB 7200 rpm. Im using this version 9.1.2-1. Maybe its better that i delete all my Database because its not configured as the tutorial says, the same with the HD. I would like to start at the beginnig good, what do you think?
Its not a problem for me delete it, i have my info saved.

You can if you would like but I'm not certain it is necessary - that said, we also do not officially support PostgreSQL 9.1 at this time and we cannot confirm it will run without any problems.
