I'm glad that you got the issue sorted out. I've heard through the grapevine that F-Secure is definitely aware of the issue, but I'm sure more e-mails about it will help get them moving a little faster . . . and hopefully they'll have it sorted soon :)

Fsecure workaround

Postby wildman1965 » Sat Apr 11, 2009 11:39 am

Here is my workaround for running PT3 with FSECURE 8.0

I am running Vista home basic and charter security suite and this works for me.

open start from the taskbar-right click computer- left click manage (opens computer management)
expand services and applications - select services.
find the following 5 running services
F-Secure Anti-Virus Firewall Daemon
F-Secure Automatic Update Agent
F-Secure Management Agent
F-Secure ORSP Client
FSGKHS

the two of concern are
F-Secure Management Agent & FSGKHS
highlite F-Secure Management Agent and stop the service (must be stopped first)
three others will also stop.
highlite FSGKHS and stop the service. all five should be stopped.

NOW YOU CAN START PT3.
after PT3 is up restart F-Secure Management Agent and FSGKHS in that order and all five are started.

works for me, this should work installing postgres also.

Good Luck,

Hi Again,

Havent been here for a while but read the posts and need some helping comments.

I had the f-seruce and PT3 doesnt start problem which I posted earlier. However, for some reason my HP driver update crashed and in the end I had to format my hard drive and reinstall everthing. It was fun and productive 3 days  .
In the reinsalling process I visited the AVG and started to download the free version but the download speed was so bad (like 2 hours) that I cancelled the operation. I loaded the f-secure for now and lets see is there gonna be a fix or not.
Before I formated the hard disk I moved the the folder of postgres which was named after my database. As you know I could not enter the PT3 and make an backup of my database, so hopefully the data is thera and is useful,is it???

OK, here is the thing. I would appricieate if one of the moderators would write down the post which I should read in order to make successfull reinstall of PT3 and postgres. And what should I do to use the old database if that is possible. It would be really nice if I would be successfull and make it work. I want point out that I am not IT pro so I am truly a fish in this bond and need help.

TR

PS: I will let you know how fs will co-operate this time

You copied the C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL directory? That's the one you'd need to recover your database. Move it back to C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL and follow the directions in this pdf and then install PokerTracker 3 Beta 26.2 (upgrade, not full install) and that should likely get you up and running.

I have found that I can keep F-Secure running IF and ONLY IF, I have auto updates disabled.

I do a manual update once a week or so, and run a system scan, then make sure the auto updates is turned off, and so far it works ok.

New info.

I generally unload my Fsecure, and run unprotected. I seldom reboot, and rather than sleep, I hybernate. This allows the fasted up time. I do an update and scan monthly or so.

I did housekeeping last night, and Fsecure updates and scans this morning, I rebooted, again PT3 doesn't load, so I unloaded Fsecure. In the past I would then manually unload all reference to any fsecure programs via task manager. But today I just removed a Gatekeeper program, and pt3 came up fine. It may be that the entire problem lies in that one program from Fsecure.

Try using Task Manager (right click task bar) and remove anything called gatekeeper.

A better alternative to TaskManager (IMO) is Sysinternals (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... fault.aspx)

Hi,

Wildman1965 found a very good solution (see above). It woks well for me. I am just disapointed that I am not virus-protected during a poker session (so I try not to go to internet at the same time... poker and only poker...).

Thanks a lot Wildman1965. Well done !
