That's interesting, I'll have to do some testing to see if I can reproduce any of this over here. Do let me know how the new database performs.

right, will do.. gotta wait for this one to finish though... (currently at 6h:12m of clustering)

then i'll create a new TEST DB and import these same 1.6MM hands..

(Pure guess..) It's possible that a small DB will shower higher CPU usage because there would be less disk activity needed, so the processing itself would be more intensive.

ummmm... quick (and stupid) question --

I JUST noticed the PostgreSQL installations intructons http://www.pokertracker.com/products/PT3/docs/PokerTracker3_Manual_Uninstall_Reinstall_PostgreSQL.pdf..

I have to admit that it's not the way I installed it.. I do NOT have the ODBC driver and I dont have the Stack Builder..

I installed PT3 and upon launch it asked me if I wanted to install PostgresSQL which I said yes to...and just followed the defaults..

is that wrong?

p.s. i did it this ("improper") way on the laptop too and it seems to be working fine there...

That shouldn't make a difference in terms of speed once it's installed. The built in PT3 installation process should work identically - the reason those instructions go through it in that fashion is that the built in PT3 installation does not work for certain people but those installation instructions will work for everybody.

then how come i dont see the psqlODBC in my control panel and neither do I see it on the list of ODBC connections/drivers..

same goes for Stack Builder -- how can I verify I have it installed?

If you didn't have psqlODBC installed, PT3 wouldn't be able to talk to PostgreSQL. The stack builder is mostly to make sure that the ODBC is installed, and for the optional tuning wizard which may become registration only, and you can do the same tunings manually for performance reasons (see here).
