Postby tizlinda » Mon Sep 01, 2008 1:30 am

no stats available because it says "server closed the connection unexpectedly. Restarting the program didn't help. What did I do? All help appreciated.

This means that postgres isn't running.
Please try starting the postgres service: Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL -> Start Service.
If that, and a reboot doesn't work, try stopping the service (Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Stop Service), running a search on your computer for postmaster.pid and then deleting that file, then restarting the service and see if that helps.
Note that you may need to turn on 'View hidden files and folders', and the file seems to be in the folder './Program Files/postgresql/<version>/data'.

I had to do the second option...delete the file you said to to get my stats back. However, as soon as I began importing it happened again and all was gone. Should I just do a uninstall/reinstall or is there something I can do to fix it permanently?

That sounds like something on your computer doesn't like postgres and keeps shutting it down.
What anti-virus and firewall software do you have?

Have a look at this thread:

im not using any anti virus, I do believe that pokertracker is responsible for pokerstars crashing as well, as whenever I get moved to a different table with the HUD on it crashes since I've been having this postreg problem, I just closed PT and Pokerstars crashed. I haven't had this problem before and have been using it for months. I do believe it is associated with the new version as I just downloaded it two days ago.

just using the vista firewall

Please enable logging, and next time you get the problem submit your PokerTracker.log and PokerTrackerHUD.log files (zip/compress them first, call it logs.zip) to the
Support system , and link to this thread in the reference field of the ticket so that we can investigate.

I elected to uninstall everything and start over....the frustration is exceeding my patience. I'm not a computer tech as it appears you must be to keep up with all the updates and problems associated with them. No offense, I love the product when it works, but having already paid for it I need it to work and. I have already wiped out a complete database a month ago when reformatting seemed to be the quickest way to solve the problem.

Now I have uninstalled everything and started over. After downloading PostgreSQL 8.2.7 and PT and installing PostgreSQL I can't get through the installation process for Postgre SQL. I don't understand the inner workings of this program nor do I want to. I put in my password and it goes to the next screen put in another password it says the specified data directory is not empty. I unchecked "initialize database cluster", get rid of the password on that screen and it seems to install. However, after starting PT and inputting the password it is unable to connect to the database "please check the configuration." I know nothing about the configuration.

this is where I am. Reformatting is not high on my list, however I now have another drive to save my hand histories on so at least I won't lose those, for the last 30 days at least, but I feel naked without my HUD. this seems to be a very complicated program and you seem to have to have quite a bit of programming knowledge to use it as issues keep popping up that require me (with no programming knowledge) to simply start anew.

Rather than Reformat is there another way to purge my computer of everything associated with this program...ie. databases so I can start fresh.

Uninstalling postgres isn't as simple as just deleting it - please see the directions in this FAQ.
Total uninstall/reinstall of pt3

It seems like the latest postgres version now works better with Vista, so at step 4, get this version instead.
Postgres 8.3.3

What now?
