PT3 needs admin rights?

Tried to run PT3 from a non-admin account today, and got a message saying that PT3 needs admin rights.

Is this going to be the case for the full release? If so, how do I go about giving a specific program administrative rights?

Right click -> Properties -> Always run as Administrator.

or something similar.

As long as your user id has administrative rights, you should be OK? I'm on XP and getting an unexpected error message running as a user with administrative rights.

With WinXP that is all that you need, yes. Are you running any Firewall or AntiVirus software that may be interfering with PT3? Try temporarily disabling to confirm.

I wonder if you have "Data Execution Prevention" enabled?

Go Start->Control Panel->Performance & Maintenance->System. Choose the "Advanced" Tab and click "Settings" under Performance. Select the "Data Execution Prevention" tab.

If "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" is chosen, click "Add" and browse to and select "PokerTracker.exe".

("If Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" is selected, do nothing)

Best regards,

Derek

It was set to Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only.

Let's boot into Safe Mode and see if it runs:

Go Start->Run, "msconfig" OK.

On the "Boot" tab check "Safe Boot" then select "Network". Click Apply->OK. You will now need to reboot your computer into Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, try running PokerTracker and see if it starts.

To get out of safe mode, do the same as above; however, uncheck "Safe Boot".

Best regards,

Derek

No dice, unfortunately. Just to make sure that I'm not missing something obvious..the only thing I need to check to make sure that my user id has administrative rights is to go into Control Panel, User Accounts and make sure that my user name belongs to the Administrators group (it does, same group as Administrator).

Are there any other common poker-related programs I can run that would help narrow down anything? I run a decently wide array of programs without issue: PT2, PAHUD, SpadeEye, and a number of AHK scripts and other programs.

Was fooling around with all the different places I could think of (not that I know them all) to check out access rights: Control Panel/User Accounts, file/shortcut properties, etc. I forget where, but in one of the lists, my name didn't resolve right away...there was a strange string that after a moment resolved into my user name...I have no idea what that is or whether it is totally normal, but if PT3 is querying a list somewhere for the current account and there is any way to retry in like a half second if it fails, perhaps that would help?

Also, the admin rights message dialog box looks a lot nicer in Beta 3 :). I'm really frustrated because this is the first program -- poker-related or otherwise -- that I've had any difficulty installing on this laptop over the last couple years...I'm sure there's something strange going on with my computer, I just don't know where to look. Thanks.
