Reloading PostgresSQL pain

Postby Scrumbine » Tue Sep 29, 2009 7:17 pm

Well, I am not sure, but I think I screwed up.

I can not remember what the user name I used is, and the port is already used by the data base I already set up, I think. I do not want to use a different port # because I am not that good with computers and do not want to really screw it up. So, I want to know how to find out what user name I used before, or set up a new data base on the same port #, or I guess how to use a different port #. Sorry for the newbie question, I have been searching for an answer to my question, but it seems few have screwed this up the same way I have.

Thank you in advance for any help on the subject.

The default PostgreSQL user is "postgres" (no quotes) and the default password is "dbpass" (also no quotes)

For some reason I had to use a different user name, and I am almost sure I used postgrespass for the passowrord. I just realized I did not properly uninstall postgress and I am redoing that right now. Perhaps this will fix the problem. I still would like to know how to recover the user name if different than default

The easiest thing to do, honestly, is to reinstall and create a new username and remember that one. We have an uninstall/reinstall guide on our documentation page.
