Very weird errors

Postby dadaas » Sat Oct 24, 2009 9:20 am

Postgres wont start on PT3 load, so i start it manually, and then i need to start it several times to succesfully start, it starts like old car...

Then when i wish to start PT3 i get asked to creater database but i already have database and i choose that database, but then postgres say something that its invalid database so i do it again once it finally say its ok i get to another screen where again i need to choose database because it cant connect to defauklt database... Then i exit that and PT3 start and i need to set active database to my only used database and then it works.

So can i somehow fix that?
What if i reinstal postgres or upgrade to latest version, will PT3 work with 8.4 version?
What about my old database, will i have saved hands?
Can i use backup database and then rebackup it on new postgres, or do i just export hands and then import them in new postgres, please give me solutions.

If you are using Vista, are you running PT3 as Administrator?
ATTENTION: Windows VISTA users, you must read this...

What exact version of postgres do you have now?
Click Start --> Programs --> PostgreSQL --> psql to 'postgres'. At the prompt type:
SELECT version();

If you want to upgrade postgres within the same major version (e.g. 8.3.x to 8.3.y) then you can just run the installer and keep your databases (although we'd always recommend keeping a backup anyway).
If you want to upgrade from 8.3 to 8.4 then you will need to back up your databases in 8.3 and restore them in 8.4.

The following guide will walk you through the re-installation of postgres: How to reinstall Postgres.

I'm also having a problem that I thought was fixed by reinstalling postgres yesterday. I went through the process and it was working fine all night, but this am I'm getting the same error. Is there something else I should do or that I am missing? I selected "start service" to get it running. Any idea what the problem may be.

Fatal Exception during Auto-Import process: Unable to connect to database: PokerTracker 3 Database

PT3 build 5.2
Postgres 8.3
Windows XP

Thanks in advance. I'll tinker around some more in the interim. Seems like it should be simple...

Ok, so restarted the computer, now my problem is gone. Always love it when things are that easy!

Yeah that error can happen after certain Windows updates and restarting fixes it :)

Okay, I'm thoroughly confused now. Restarting doesn't necessarily seem to fix my previous problem with postgres locating the PT3 db anymore (referencing the above post).

Additionally, even when I was able (once, anyway) to get that taken care of by rebooting the system, I ran into a problem with the HUD. I went to the HUD menu to Configure and simply clicked the Apply button and the stats appeared. Unfortunately they didn't appear on any other tables I opened.

Anyone know what's going on here? I reinstalled the same version of Postgres after following instructions in the online manual. I never had problems before. Anyone have any advice?

Try upgrading to Beta 29.1 and see if that helps. If it doesn't, please open PT3 using the logging enabled link and report your problem and we'll investigate further.
