uninstalling Postgre

Postby Joss » Sat Dec 19, 2009 1:30 pm

Hi all

Looking for a liitle advice please ..

Im trying to remove Postgre after things started to go wrong and i made a mess of trying to fix it ...

I want to start again by removing the 8.2 version and replacing it with the 8.4 version.

Im just not sure how to unistall this version correctly .

Ive gone to control panel / options and unistalled that way .. i then went to the program files and removed all the Postgre files from there ..

and now im trying to run the Start / run / cmd option

i type in net user postgres / delete and i get this

The syntax of this command is :

NET USER
[username [password : *] [options]] [/DOMAIN]
username {password : *} /ADD [options] [/DOMAIN]
username [/DELETE] [/DOMAIN]

Does this mean its been removed ?

Ive yet to re-boot and im not sure whether i have to turn off my firewalls before downloading the 8.4 version .

I use a Windows XP and i have Zone Alarm, AVG and Ad-Aware ( all freebies ) running ..

Any advice would be appreciated.

There's no space between the / and delete (it's net user postgres /delete), it will say "The command completed successfully" once it is complete.

One thing to note though: you will not be able to reuse your data folder from the 8.2 install in the 8.4 install, so if you are going to reconstruct databases you either need a backup of the database or you need the hand histories to reimport.
