OS X - Can't connect to postgresql database

Postby wolfram » Wed Dec 23, 2009 11:07 am

Hi.

I just installed the full version of PT3 for Mac OS X. When I run the App, a popup appears labeled "Configure PostgreSQL Server" with default values for server, user, port and password (localhost, postgres, 5432, dbpass).

I click 'connect' and get an error message saying "unable to connect to this database, please check configuration"

If I run pgadmin III I can see one server in the server dropdown labeled "PostgreSQL 8.4 (localhost:5433)" but it has a red cross over it. If I try to run the "start server" scrip it returns a non-zero value which I assume is an error. If I try to connect to the server in pgadmin I get an error saying "Server doesn't listen".

Now I noticed that the port number is different in PT3's connection window and in pgadmin, but changing those values around yields the same results as before.

I'm runnin Leopard (10.5.8) of OS X.

Thanks,
Jóhann

One note:

I did have postgresql 8.3 set up before I installed PT3. When I noticed that the 8.3 servers were using ports 5432 I decided to uninstall 8.3 and also 8.4 and PT3 and start from the ground up. But no luck, I get the same errors

wolfram,

Please give Daniel's suggestion a try and let me know if it doesn't help things for you and if it doesn't we'll look into other reasons for the problem.
