Computer crashed - Database on Spare Disk

I have formated windows, how can I link my old database (located on the spare_disk) ?

Were you using a tablespace or a complete install on the spare disk?

Did you backup any of the PostgreSQL directory on your main computer?

yes I have it in
C:\Windows.old\Program Files\PostgreSQL

If you copy that back to C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\ and then hook up your external drive and reinstall PostgreSQL everything should reconnect properly.

8.3 refuse to install (my older setup was 8.3) because of permission in some files

and when I install 8.4, everything is fine but 8.4 doesn't see the older version

8.4 won't work with the database regardless; you'll need to get 8.3 installed. What error does it give you when you try to install 8.3?
