Mac installation

Postby Robbie22 » Sat Mar 06, 2010 3:30 pm

Hi there,

I tried to install PokerTracker 3 on my Mac and during installation there was an error and it quit unexpectedly. It got that far as to install PostgreSQL, but then when launching PT3 it quit. I tried running PT3 again, but there was the error message that I am unable to connect (seemingly rather common in the forums for Macs).

After the crash I deleted both PokerTracker 3 and the PostgreSQL folder using AppDelete and emptied the trash intending to do a fresh install.

After a restart and relaunching the PokerTracker 3 installer, it said it completed the install successfully (however this time it did not download PostgreSQL again, like it did the first time...). When I tried to launch PokerTracker 3 it (obviously) could not connect to PostgreSQL (as I had deleted it) - but the installer did not prompt me to download it again either.

I visited the official PostgreSQL download page and installed version 8.4, tried reinstalling PokerTracker again, restarted, but I still encounter a connection error to PostgreSQL.

When I go to the PostgreSQL 8.4 folder and try starting the server from there I get the error messge:

pg_ctl: another server might be running; trying to start server anyway [date] GMTFATAL: Lock file "postmaster.pid" already exists
[date] GMTHINT: Is another postmaster (PID 529) running in data directory "/Library/POstgreSQL/8.4/data"?
pg_ctl: could not start server
Examine the log output.

How should I proceed now? Should I uninstall everything and start again? If so, how do I do that on a Mac (there is no uninstaller and AppDelete didn't seem to work well)?

FYI, I do have PT installed on my Windows XP virtual machine via Parallels, but I don't have Parallels running. Is this possibly causing some interference?

Would appreciate advice on how to proceed.

Thanks,

Robbie

If Parallels isn't running that shouldn't cause any problems as the postgres service can't be running there.

Have a look at this thread for help uninstalling postgres.
I imagine that PT3 didn't try to install it again because you still had a partial installation.
