If you use the default passwords PT3 suggests, it should install without issue.

Having just re-installed postgres from the postgres website I can say that Josh's suggestion does work. I tried a few long random strings of characters which it wouldn't accept, but the auto-generated one is WAY more random - make sure you write it down, though (I took a screenshot because it has a couple of really wierd characters I didn't want to mistake, to type it out I had to resort to Word's Insert-character option!).

I am having a similar problem with PostgreSQL accepting any password I enter. I installed the program from together with PT3 download. I tried to enter the following passwords when prompted:

- default password
- plain text 'password'
- Derek's suggested password from the previous page
- a 10 character password which included a number, small/large cap text and a special character @

None of the above passwords were accepted as I continued to receive the The password is too short or not complex enough error message.

Any suggestions? how did the others resolve their problems.

Thanks very much for your help, look forward to using the new program.

As I said above, let it generate one for you, but make sure you write it down carefully!

Where would I find the random password generator? Is it included with the download from the website or is it on their website itself?

On the screen where it's asking you for a password there should be a button or something that offers to create one for you.
I only did this once, and it was a while ago, so I can't remember exactly..

I managed to successfully install PT3 and PostgreSQL. All I needed to do was change both password settings to a 10 digit password with large/small cap, number and special character. Last night I was only changing one of the passwords. Thanks very much for everyone's assistance.

I used the button to randomly generate a password and it outputted a 31-character long password with a combination of upper/lower cases/numbers/symbols etc etc and STILL I received the same error message that the password was not 'long/complex enough'. What am I to do?

Don't worry about it, just click that it's fine and go through. That password is only for the postgres service account to log on to your machine - it really doesn't matter much (but you do want to keep track of what it is).
