How do I check the version I have and how do I upgrade?

In the newer versions of PT3 (Beta 30.7+) it says on the Database Management window in the upper right hand corner.

The upgrade directions change depending on what you're upgrading to and from.

I have v8.2.13 in Win7. Also, if I need to backup up my database to upgrade I couldn't find out how anywhere.

Yes, you'll need to backup to upgrade from the 8.2.x line to the 8.3.x or 8.4.x line - right now we are still recommending the 8.3.x line (particular 8.3.9 as it is the most recent).

You'll need to backup your database as explained in this tutorial then uninstall 8.2 and download and install the 8.3.9 pgInstaller from PostgreSQL's website. Install it, restore your database, and that should be all you need to do.

Quote form the backup tutorial. So there's no need to backup the database?

You need to follow those directions to backup an 8.2.x database - the PT3 backup mechanism will only backup 8.3.x databases.
