Cannot Connect to PostgreSQL

Postby nymetsfan25 » Fri May 21, 2010 2:12 am

I feel like this would be a really common problem, but....I installed PT 3, did the free trial, when PT 3 started, it prompted me to download and install PostgreSQL, which I did. Now when I start PT 3, the box "Configure PostgreSQL Server" comes up, I don't change any of the information, and hit connect and it says "Unable to connect to this database. Please check the configuration."

What do I have to do to get this to work? Thanks!

Please check to make sure PostgreSQL is listed on your Start menu (ie- that it did install completely). If it's there, try clicking the Start Service option under the PostgreSQL folder and see if that improves things. You may also want to make sure your firewall isn't blocking PostgreSQL from starting - see the Firewall Configuration Guide which will walk you through the steps to add an exception for PostgreSQL to most common firewall software.

Reboot your computer then run PT3 again and see if that makes any difference - that error message suggests part of PT3 is still running.
