Updating to 9.0.10 x64

Postby HaxyQ » Wed Oct 31, 2012 1:01 pm

I had postgresql 8.3 already installed when I installed PT4, and now Im concidering updating to 9.0.10 x64.

Reading the tutorial on how to do it, it seemed like a real hassle. So, is it worth it? Exactly what will be improved? The database loading speed? Hand import speed?

And if I do decide to update, can I just do the following:

Backup my database
Uninstall 8.3
Install 9.0.10 x64 with OneClick Installer
Restore database

Or is there something else i need to do before/while/after installing?

Thanks.

Those steps will work. There are general performance improvements across the board in 9.0.x but one of the biggest things for you is that the 64 bit version will be able to utilize more of your RAM - the non-64 bit version is limited by its architecture.
