Alright as Joel, Thomas etc in the support system know, I've been having problems with postgresql and need to uninstall and start over. I decided to post here for the future benefit of others (I'll post results as well).
Here's the history:
I had v8.2 on my machine so I uninstalled that but failed to issue that command line instruction. I guess that's why v8.2 still tries to load according to my Services widget. When I subsequently installed PT3 v8.3 would not install, and I downloaded and installed from the postgres website (which is not as fun and easy as it sounds). It did work and PT3 managed to install and work correctly, that is until I rebooted at which point there were logon errors.
In starting from scratch... I want to make sure v8.2 AND v8.3 are both obliterated completely, and I want to confirm that the following is correct (win XP):
Step 1: Uninstall PT3.
Step 2: In v8.2 'postgres' is the username? So Start/run/cmd and "net user postgres /delete" will finish the banishment of v8.2?
Step 3: Then control panel - add/remove programs, uninstall v8.3, delete the path, Start/run/cmd "net user John / delete" (John being the username I designated for 8.3 when I installed from the postgres website)
Sound right?
For the record I'm all for removing the password option. Installing from the postgres website at least, not having a password for my comp's admin account caused me to have to create one. Annoying and possibly more than that for the average user...
