postgresql settings

Postby zedjr » Sun Aug 17, 2008 11:00 am

I am researching on how to better improve my postgresql performance and asked some questions at a postgresql forum and they want to know am i trying to improve performance on insert/update/delete performance or query performance? i really dont know but if i had to guess i would say query performance would be good for the hud and insert/update delete wold be good for importing. want hud to show up quicker mainly is my main objective. i am also being told to increase effective cache size in the config file. u think this would help. IS at 128mb. Was told to increase it to 2/3 of memory which i think that is way too much.

WOnt know for sure for a few days if it was a coincidence but some others may want to try. was told to take avaialble ram i have and allocate 1/2 of it.
