initdb problem

Postby DexterGT » Thu Jan 15, 2009 6:03 am

okay, I have read almost 15 threads about this, and none of them worked so far :(.

I have windows vista with service pack 1

Firewalls and anti virus are turned off

Its the first time i try PT on this computer

I have tried to install postgres 8.3, It did not work, so i followed your guides to uninstall postgres 8.3 and I then installed postgres 8.2 which is giving me the same initdb error..( telling me to view the initdb.log and then rolling back on my download)..

I have tried Installing and reinstalling about 10 x btw.

Please tell me what to do here..

Could you please paste the contents of that log before clicking 'ok' and having the installation roll back? That might give us a more specific clue as to what's causing the problem for you.

Failed to run initdb: 1!
Please see the logfile in 'C:\Program
Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\tmp\initdb.log'.
Note! You must read/copy this logfile before you click OK,
or it will be automatically removed

even after fully uninstalling v 8.3 of postgres and Installing v 8.2 I keep getting that error..

I mean the 'C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\tmp\initdb.log' file, before you click that 'ok' button there should be a file there which has more details on the error.
