PT2>PostgresQL (ODBC?)>PT3 (Manual Tourney Entry?)

Postby JimmyM69 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 12:00 pm

Please forgive if asked/answered, or posted in the wrong place, and point in right direction.

Installed trial PT3 & PostgreSQL from your site, imported HHs from HD, discovered (shock, horror  ) that my tournament standings weren't in the database (396 tournies in my PT2 Access db).
Have neither time nor wish to manually enter Tourney Results into PT3, so thought I'd try to convert my PT2 Access database to a PostgreSQL database.

1. If I succeeded in converting my PT2 db to PostgreSQL, then converting that database to PT3, would my Tourney Results then appear in the resultant PT3 database?
If "No", let's stop right there, as I'll stick with PT2, not wishing to manually enter....

In PT2, went to Utilities, PostgreSQL Settings, saw:
Post 5432
Server localhost
Username empty, inserted postgres
Password empty, inserted svcpass
ODBC Entry To Use: Ooops, nothing in the combo box :o
Encoding UNICODE

2. So, if "Yes" to 1. above, I guess I need an ODBC driver or suchlike, which please point me to?

3. If I succeed in the PT2 conversion, will I be able to "see" all my existing PT2 data in my trial PT3 database, without further manipulation. If manipulation still be needed, please point me to info as to what will be required.

FWIW, and, if relevant OS is XP Pro SP2, MS Office is 2003, all fully updated.

Grateful any help, TIA
Jas

Once you convert the PT2 database to PostgreSQL and convert that into PT3, all of the data will come across, including your tournament results as long as you are using Beta 26 (I'm not 100% sure that this function was around at the time of Build 4, but I'm certain it's in Beta 26, along with a bunch of other new features and bug fixes, so it's recommended that you use Beta 26 anyway).

Thanks, I was using Build 4, as I mistakenly thought it to be the most recent, but will upgrade, downloading as I write.
I guess all I now need is to fix the missing "ODBC Entry To Use".
Any ideas on that, please?
TIA

I'm not as well versed in PTv2 but if you post your question in the PT2 forums here you should get a quick response from Pat.
