Hangs when installing PostgreSQL

On startup of PostgreSQL it gets to

Service: PostgreSQL Datablas Server 8.2
Starting Services

and hangs for like 15 minutes. It then gives me the following error message:

Service "PostgreSQL Database Server 8.2"(pgsql-8.2)
failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privleges
to start system sevices.


I am running 32bit Vista and I ran everything as administrator. What should I do now?

It sounds like you are running into a permissions problem. Try disabling User Account Control, rebooting your computer, then reinstalling and see if that works.

Yea I disabled UAC a week after installing Vista. Any other ideas?

Yes, I also tried to install on my laptop which is an XP machine and i get the same error at the same time. Could it be another program conflicting with the install. I am running System Mechanic Pro on laptop which includes a firewall and antivirus. I also had that installed at one time on my Vista machine so there might be something lingering there. It is possible that i did not do a thorough enough uninstall. Any suggestions?

Go Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services

Is the "PostgreSQL Database Server" service installed? If it is, double click it. On the "Log On" tab. Which method is used? (A screenshot would be helpful)

It is , I have no idea how to post a screenshot though. It reads across like this:

so under status it is just blank.
