Did you actually connect to the proper database? Did the prompt change from postgres=# to YourDatabaseName=#?

i know it's "after the horse has bolted" on this one but i still maintain that's it's extremely good practice before any incremental or major upgrade and indeed IMPERATIVE before one where the release says it's gonna change the db structure, to pgdump your db's in case you need to rollback...
