None at all. I regularly blow the VM away and rebuild it so the chances of a virus taking hold are pretty slim.
Anyway, I found that the postrgres service wasn't starting on the host but was instead running on the guest but accessing the db on the host. I would not have thought that possible, but stranger things have happened. I was still a little concerned about the tmp file size being almost the same size as available disk space so I bought a couple of Tb of additional storage yesterday but haven't finished setting it up.
I'm not overly concerned about not being able to backup the db as I can do this within pgadmin and I can do a backup of config files etc native within PT3. So my plan of attack is to re-read the stickies/howto's on setting up network accessible db (tablespaces and such) and once this is done, try the backup again.
Tx for the help kraada... will keep you in the loop.
