"Please provide a password for the database superuser and service account (postgres). If the service account already exists in Windows, you must enter the current password for the account"

Where can i find this password?

Soo.. got the 9.0 downloaded, what do i do now? Tried to stop service for 8.2 and start the 9.0 thing but when i launched pt3 the Configure PostgreSQL Database came up and the port was set at 5432 while i chose 5490 as you said so i figured it was wrong.

How do i start pt3 with 9.0 and i guess a new database, and then restore the old one into the new one? I could obviously have just chosen to change to the new port and see if pt3 starts and i can go to Restore but im afraid of destroying everything too

No idea why most forums has a maxlimit for the time you can edit a post. No forums should have such a function. Spamming here..

Stopped service at 8.2, took "Reload configuration" in the postgres 9.0 and started up PT3. Let the database name that popped up stand, did not check off "This database allready exists", and changed the port to 5490 and pass to dbass (had to to start up).

In the database management section it says postgresql is at v9.04. Two databases exist, one named Poker Tracker 3 Database and one (the new one) PT3_2011_06_18_025843. This one is set as default/active. But when i try to click restore and pick the zipped backup file i created pt3 freezes and nothing happends... mouse is a loading symbol.

Also if i try to put the old one as active/default, it says you cannot activate an invalid database.

Am i doing it the wrong way?

You will not be able to connect directly to the old 8.2 database using 9.0 - that just won't work.

I'm not sure that the backup mechanism in PT3 works correctly with 8.2. Try starting the 8.2 service again and do the backup in 8.2 / restore in 9.0 manually, as described in this post.

(FWIW, if you edit a post we don't see it as a "new post" in the forum list so we may not notice your update - by posting again we see the new information so it's much less likely to be missed.)

When you say do the backup in 8.2/restore in 9.0, i have allready made a backup in 8.2 so i guess i kan skip to 1. Open PGAdmin: Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> PGAdmin III. <-- and do this in the PostgreSQL 9.0 folder in Start programs, not 8.2

No i think you mean start service in 8.2 and do a new backup from the 8.2 database with this new method.

Error message when using pg3 admin from 8.2 and double click login to database:

Server doesn't listen
The server doesn't accept connections: the connection library reports
could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "127.0.0.1" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

in 9.0:
Server doesn't listen
The server doesn't accept connections: the connection library reports
could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432? could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

i have little idea what im doing here..

where should i start up PG3 admin, in the postgresql 9.0 or 8.2? and havent i messed up something with launching pt3 and creating the new database on the new 5490 port etc? i dont think i can use my 8.2 database anymore at all. If i try to start service in 8.2 and open pt3, its still opening in the "new" database thing i created and if i try to switch active database in the Player /Site section it says Unable to connect to database: Pokertracker 3 Database. So it doesnt seem as if Star service in 8.2 actually starts the 8.2 postgresql, its still using v9.0.4

Out of the blue the "Restore" function didnt hang pt3 today and it now appears to be restoring the database.... this is by opening pt3->database management->Restore and not the pg3admin thing.. hope it will work.. i dont think i did anything differently than when i tried to do it yesterday

Databases
-------------------
PT3 DB Decompressing...Connect Error
Remove Temp TOC File...OK
Remove Temp Undo Folder...OK
Temp Databases Files...OK
Temp Optional Files...OK
Temp Aggregated Files...OK
Remove Temp Folder...OK

Great - let us know how it turns out.

If you need to back up manually in 8.2 you would need to start the PostgreSQL 8.2 service and then run PGAdmin for 8.2.
When you've made the backup start the 9.0 service and run PGAdmin for 9.0 to restore.
Having both installed isn't a problem - they can run fine together on separate ports.

It said the restore was sucessfull but with some "errors".. restarted pt3, had to once again go through that "Configure daabase" thing where i never know what to put, but once again i put 5490 as port and did NOT click "this database allread exist" as a new database name came up ---> pt3 started and the database is still appearing empty

However, if i go to the backup section it tells me this database is of 8600 kb while the old one is at 0 kb.
