try putting in the explicit IP of the client on the servers pg_hba.conf, viz.,

host all all 192.168.1.6/32 trust

it must be a firewall problem then.

what firewall softwares do you have running on the two machines?

have you opened up 5432 on the router config?

I have Comodo running on both machines. I have a 'port set' for 5432 on both of them.

Yeah I have port forwarding for 5432. Is that right?

Yeah I'm about 99% sure this router just has problems port forwarding. I'm going to *gulp* see if Netgear can help.

I've had problems hosting Warcraft games and stuff too. Frustrating.

But yeah, there is a services section in port forwarding/triggering.

Forget the router. It is not the problem. The router will not intefere in traffic between two computers on it's LAN.

Either I am confused, or you absolutely do not want any port forwarding things in the router complicating matters. As I understand it, you have a router connecting you to the internet. Computers A and B are both connected to the router's hard wired LAN ports. Port forwarding is for moving traffic between internet and lan ports, not between lan ports.

Of course, if you are actually trying to connect to postgresql server in another house over the internet - you actually do want to mess with port forwarding - but do not set it up this way, very dangerous!

I have Comodo running on both machines. I have a 'port set' for 5432 on both of them.

This is the problem imo. Disable ALL of comodo's protection, for now. Also check to see if "Windows firewall" is running too. "Control Panel -> Network Connections", If it says "connected, firewalled" next to "Local Area Connection" - Right click, Properties -> Advanced - Windows firewall on/off is somewhere in here (I don't have it, sorry can't be more accurate)

yea dave's right here; i'm off the mark with the router thing...

i have this sought of config. on my firewalls though; granted it's a different app.but the principle must be the same:

no port forwarding, just 5432 open for TCP...

I've done it without Comodo on a few times.
