Sorry I now have another problem. Because I was unable to install postgres due to not knowing the password there is not option to uninstall it in the control panel, though it may have partially installed I am not sure. Do I just manually delete everything to with postgres on my computer??

Weird. Yes, in that case manually delete the PostgreSQL folder in C:\Program Files\, then follow the other steps in the guide (the net user postgres /delete is important).

Right I deleted all the postgres stuff off my computer including the program files and entered the command prompt stuff. Downloaded the latest version postgres for vista, unzipped it to my desktop as shown here: http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/3934 ... lssjd8.jpg

Now I try to run install, as before same problem can't complete installation due to not knowing password. However, there is no-longer a postgres program on my start bar because I deleted it when I was uninstalling postgres so how do I change the settings to "trust" and reload configurations.

What next please.

if it's got as far as creating the postgres folders; just browse to the config. file in windows explorer and edit it manually with notepad.

Program start groups are not there because they may be the last things the installer creates before terminating.

so let's just clarify where we are here:

1. you couldn't remove the postgres app. because it wasn't on the add/remove programs?

2. you wacked everything manually, postgres folders, sub-folders, net user postgres /delete?

3. you re-installed latest beta bundle with postgres 8.3 and it gets stuck asking for the postgres user password?

you try just "dbpass"?

maybe some keys are left in the registry from the previous install; try downloading the Microsoft Windows Install Clean Up Utility .

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

or if this doesn't do it; go through the registry and remove any postgres keys manually - BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST.

wack any postgres folders, sub-folders, net user postgres /delete.

reinstall.

Yes to 1 and 2. However I didn't uninstall poker tracker 3 or delete any poker tracker 3 stuff other than postgres. Should I uninstall PT3 too and download the latest beta which doesn't have postgress bundled with it? I was following

I have tried dbpass.

I will try Microsoft Windows Cleanup Utility but I am not hopeful.

Come on guys help me out. At least tell me how to delete the main database. That's whats causing this problem not knowing the main password to it, if I could start a fresh one I wouldnt have any problems. Not ideal but at least I would have something.

I have missed a days work over this.

Yes I have cleaned the registry I've done everything suggested in this thread and I'm still where I started.

The problem is the postgres username account is still somehow on my pc somewhere because after I delete+uninstall PT3 and Postgres and then re-install them both, when I begin the installation process for postgres and it prompts for a password for the default account name "postgres" it won't let me set a password citing "unknown username or bad password" - so it must have the account old account details somewhere. So I try setting up a new account name and installing but it only partially installs.

So how do I reset the whole thing so no more passwords are required?? :(
