Hangs when installing PostgreSQL

One of the things I have done on a regular basis is run a registry cleaner. Do you think maybe something in the registry was removed that is needed to run postgreSQL? Other than that I just cannot think of anything that I do that is perhaps not normal.

I cant imagine that would be the problem.

I found one tidbit of information though...

From the command line type:
[code6v5]net localgroup "Power Users"[/code6v5]

I was looking on my wife's computer where it installed correctly. When I went to computer management under system tools there was no folder for local users and groups. I dont think she ever created an account so she just uses the owner account. When I look back at comp management on my computers i find the postgres user. Does the postgres user need to be a member of the group administrators? When I look at the properties of the postgres user it shows it as being a member of no groups.

Ok, so there are no members of "Power Users".

No, the user "postgres" should not be a member of the administrator group. It should be an account of its own. The only rights that it should really have/need are to start a service; otherwise, that defeats the purpose of having a service account.

Hmm, I am baffled. I will post some questions on the PostgreSQL mailing lists and see if I can get any answers. I have seen some similar questions that have gone unanswered in the past.

A/V Nod 32 is AntiVirus software. I do not think this is your problem, as we have temporarily disabled your firewall and A/v, correct?

ahh. yea i had gone so far as to completely uninstall it rather than just disable it.
