Desperate for HELP

I am a windows vista user and postresSQL 8.3 didn't work on my system. I proceeded to download postgreSQL 8.2.7 and went through the installation process. In the service configuration windown i try to create an account password but it will not let me unless I change the account name. Upon changing the account name a password is valid. The account is created at this point with the new account name. In the proceeding Initialize database cluster window, I choose a different password without changing the superuser name. In the installation process where it is "creating user account" an error occurs saying " User 'taylor' could not be created: Access Denied!" At this point the installation ends 'prematurely because of an error'. This same error pops up when I tried again changing the superuser name to match the new account name.

I am at my wits end with this postgre stuff and have run out of options, I have been trying on and off for months to get this to work but keep giving up.
ANY help at all is much appreciated!

Firstly, you will NEED to install it with the "postgres" user, as this is what PT3 needs.
There should be an option for it to create a password for you on that screen, isn't there? Click that option..

Also, Postgres 8.3.3 is now available which seems to be working with Vista, so I would suggest using that instead.

With my countless attempts, they only offered me a password after I changed the username and created my own password. A popup comes up and says the password is weak, do you want us to appoint a more secure password. Without changing the username, I cant get past the Service Configuration stage in the download. The error at this point reads: "Account Error. Invalid username specified: Logon failure: uknown username or bad password.
So frustrating because I just purchased PT3 and this postgresql stuff is the only thing in the way of me getting my moneys worth.
Any more ideas?

Also, while I was messing around with it i tried downloading it by unclicking the 'install as a service' box. The installation completed successfully but when trying to open PT3 I dont have a password to enter and when clicking connect this error message appears: Unable to connect to this database. Please check configuration.

Have you disabled UAC?
Tutorial: Vista-How to Disable 'User Account Control' (UAC)

I understand that if you keep the username postgres and enter a weak password it should still prompt you to allow it to create a stronger one for you..
Make sure you note what this is and keep a record, because you will need it at some point.

I hadn't disabled UAC. I followed the instructions in the link and disabled it successfully. I uninstalled postreSQL and re-installed version 8.3.3. The exact same problem arose in the Service configuration window where it does not allow me enter a password stating: "Invalid username specified: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password."

On another note, if this issue never gets resolved, is there any chance of getting a refund for PT3?

I'm sure we'll be able to get it resolved. I'll get someone who knows more about postgres than me to take a look at this thread.

Thanks alot white rider i really appreciate the help, SO frustrating though.

In most cases, people simply type in a password in the service configuration window, they are prompted to change it, and then proceed with the installation? Then when they open PT3, they enter that given password in the postreSQL window before PT3 opens and thats that?

If I uninstall PT3 will I have to enter the registration code again upon downloading. I did not save the code when they gave it to me on this website and now when I look in my account under registration codes, nothing is appearing.
